HOLY CRAP GUYS NEW DESK NEW CHAIR INTERNETS GO

I seriously missed my PC so much. Not like...in a pathetic way or anything...*cough*

Also, it's like the biggest desk ever so I have LOTS OF ROOM FOR MY CRAP. But no drawers which is sad. Maybe I'll take a picture of my actual desk once I get everything set up on it. :o

I'm going to do art. ._.

LOL HUH?

THIS BOOK AND FILM RIGHT HRERE

  • Mar. 20th, 2010 at 12:03 AM

Is pretty much the greatest thing I ever read. Contrary to the title, it's actually celebratory. Somehow.
I'm going through a section featuring a hilarious and unapologetic history of Canada and I'm just loving it. I'm actually loving it and going WHAT at the sheer MANLINESS of the foundation of this country. WHAT HAPPENED THERE. Also it reminds me of Magnus. lmfao. I have minor "fuckyears" and bouts of laughter as I'm go through it. A++ definitive suggestion to the Canadians that follow this. It inspires me to make a comic of sorts on the history of Canada through a humour filtered lens.

Also, aside from getting fuckall done this week (relatively) it's been a good week. Feel good spring of the summer. I just get all lovey dovey and happy. Must be the warm weather and all the Japanese blossoms in the city streets and parks.

ALSO, HOLY FUCK THIS MOVIE
I SAW IT AND IT'S PRETTY GREAT. Has a twist on the zombie genre and everything.

Here's another trailer if you fancy it: http://www.youtube.com/v/RsGPsbAd7Dc

Yahhhh internet hooked up Monday didn't happen obviously. Finally got it done today. Argh, that was a runaround...

Not to mention the Jeep broke again. Got that fixed for a lot less than the moron in IA charged, so that was nice. Um...didn't get the water turned on here for DAYS after we got here, so that was fun. -_-;

Anyway, things seem to be falling into place now that it's been nearly a week. Here's hoping next week goes better and yay, I'm back, internet! Withdrawals are sad. :(

I CAN FEED YOUR POKEDOLL ADDICTION

  • Mar. 17th, 2010 at 10:12 AM
HEY GUYS.

Me clawed and blitz are going to nintendo world on saturday. I know some of you like pokedolls. So if you want me to pick any up for you let me know.

Blitz listed them as having these available:

Lugia Ho-oh Pikachu Giratina(both) Kyogre Mew Skymin Snorlax Jigglypuff Dialga Pichu Piplup Turtwig Mudkip Pachirisu Eevee Flareon Umbreon Jolteon

So at the store they're $10 each, so I can do each one at $12 for you to help me cover ridiculous new york city tax/paypal fees. Its hella cheaper than the $20 they're asking on pkmncollectors, lol.

I'd ask for doll payment upfront, because last time we went, it was a little expensive for me, haha, but I was happy to help you guys out! I'll figure out exact shipping when I get home and then invoice you nice folks for that, or if you're gonna be at FWA, I can just bring them for you.

...I know I am going to be spending WAY too much money myself this weekend! eeveessss! pachirisu! lugia! even pichu and snorlax are tempting me. ahahaha.

I hope I sell lots of art at FWA ;w;

OOOOOOOOOOH WOW

  • Mar. 16th, 2010 at 5:03 PM

Still making olympic posts. feels good man.
What blows my mind is that I was in that mass before hopping over to attend the Closing Ceremonies. Although most nights were that ridiculous at the Olympics, take special note of how the street is lined all the way to false creek with a continuous horde of people streaming over the inbound side of the bridge, cutting off traffic. Woowoow. I'll be telling my kids about that dreamlike Sunday afternoon. One of the best days of my life.

We're going to keep this short and sweet (Frank and birthday vgifts will be back next week). You've probably seen the updates to our main menu. Don't be alarmed. You'll find everything you need, just in slightly shifted format. Just so you know, we based these changes on input from both experienced and new users who were not familiar with LiveJournal. Our goal was to reduce barriers to usability and make LiveJournal more accessible and easy to navigate. Please note that this is a work in progress. We welcome your detailed suggestions in [info]feedback. We thank you, in advance, for helping us improve your LiveJournal experience.

We've updated the global navigation menu:

Here's a quick breakdown of what you'll find where:
  • Scrapbook can now be found under Profile (thanks for your feedback, btw), along with Settings, Stats, and Edit Profile.
  • You'll find all the tools you need to post and update entries under Journal, which includes posting and editing entries, managing comments and tags, and customizing your journal's style.
  • Friends contains all of your friend settings, from filtering your Friends page to adding, removing, and finding new and existing friends on LiveJournal.
  • Under Communities, you'll find links to manage your communities, accept community invites, and create new communities.
  • Explore includes search features, RSS feeds, Question of the Day, and FRNK radio.
  • Under Shop, you'll find links to upgrade or give a paid account, buy virtual gifts, purchase LiveJournal merchandise (like T-shirts), and view your payment history.

LiveJournal Mobile update:

We've enhanced LiveJournal's mobile site to improve usability and load times. We've made more of LiveJournal's features accessible via mobile, including posting comments, uploading photos, reading and commenting on friends' posts, finding and messaging friends, and more. We look forward to reviewing your feedback and recommendations for future improvements.

Other important changes:

  • You can lock comments to prevent further commenting on a post, while leaving existing comments visible.
  • We replaced the "Tell a friend" link with a new "Share This" widget that lets you share LiveJournal posts on other social media sites, including Facebook, Digg, Twitter, etc.
  • We changed some of the icons on entries (you can hover over the icons to view descriptions).
  • You'll see a Tag count on your Tag management page.
  • You'll now see the 10 most recent vgifts on your profile page. To remove vgifts, left-click on the vgift and choose whether you want to remove the vgift from your profile or delete it entirely.
  • We've added options to help you control receipt of vgifts, which you'll find in My Stuff under Edit Profile. You can now enable vgifts from friends or everyone and disable anonymous vgifts.

We've got your fix:

  • UPDATE: Rolling several updates into one listing here -- 1) Scrapbook should be back and working again. 2) The problem with the Update Journal page in IE6 and IE7 should be fixed now. 3) The problem with the userpic add-on package pricing has been fixed and refunds issued to anyone who was overcharged while the erroneous prices were in place.
  • Non-conforming images will now be automatically resized for custom mood themes.
  • Line breaks no longer count as two characters against your entry's character limit.
  • We fixed a bug on the Manage Tags page so you can clear all tags and add new tags.
  • We corrected the UI for the update.bml page so it displays properly in IE8.
Thanks again for joining us. Frank and company will be back next week!

I was under the impression that Jimmy Carter was a terrible president, probably because of all the seething conservative and critical views I've read in relation to his leadership and the simple fact he presided over a crash in the economy, but this speech he made in the 70s is almost mindblowingly concise and almost ahead of its time. It's still relevant today.

"We used to measure ourselves by what we did and how we did it, not by what we owned"

Dang.

Ever dream you'd find a genie in a bottle to grant your fondest wish? Granted!! Simply post your ardent desire and an alternative reality will materialize before your weary eyes. Quirky, creative, and oddly cathartic, a place where fantasies come true, but never in quite the manner you imagined. Shooting star meets Murphy's Law.

Livejournal trojan alert

  • Mar. 13th, 2010 at 3:16 PM
Avast is reporting that an element within Livejournal's system is attempting to install a trojan. This problem is happening site wide. I'm getting this error when I open a thread to read comments.

edit: This is apparently nothing new. Livejournal's ad system has been serving malware in the past.

Livejournal says it's Avast Anti-virus that's the problem:

We're finishing up a few odds and ends before our next major release. Our mighty Ops guys continue to slay spambots and balance load times on a highwire without a safety net (which is kind of tough dressed in full ninja gear). Down on solid ground, we're celebrating this week's virtual birthday party with a warm toast to pants. If you can rearrange the letters of your favorite city, state, and/or country (feel free to combine these elements) to spell one of Frank's favorite treats (e.g., pants, wire, paper, etc.), he'll send you over a can of whipped cream to top it all off (provided you return the empty can for his midnight snack)! And, with that, let the word scrambling commence!

Stuff you should know:

  • We're still working on the delayed/missing notifications issue. Sorry, we're frustrated too. We'll keep you posted.
  • Last week, we became aware that a recently-implemented script was overwriting affiliate referral fees for some of our users. Once we confirmed this, our Ops team quickly removed the script. Please be aware that, while we may beta-test other affiliate scripts down the line, we will take greater measures to ensure that no existing user-referral arrangements are impacted in any way.
  • While we plan to stick to a weekly news schedule, if we have a release in between regular newsletters, we'll post here to keep you informed. You can also check [info]lj_releases for current release information.

To our paid users, we send squirrels in love!

If you have a paid or permanent account, you can send five free Squirrels in love vgifts through Monday, March 15th at 4pm, PST! You'll see both the free and the $0.99 squirrels displayed until they've scurried off to their new homes. Please send only one vgift at a time. In other words, you'll need to complete check-out and start a new order for each vgift you send. If you're not receiving vgifts (from friends and/or Frank), you may have disabled them. To enable vgifts, visit Edit profile (under Profile), scroll down to the bottom of the page, and select 'Do not disable' from the drop-down menu. Have fun!

Help is on the way!

We're pleased to announce the winner of our first charitable vgift poll, Doctors without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières, which provides critical medical care to under-served populations around the world. Priced at $2.99, we'll donate 100 percent of the proceeds we raise from the sale of this vgift (we'll cover credit card fees). We invite you to start recommending nonprofits for our next fundraising drive at [info]ljnewscontests. We'll take suggestions through the month and post a poll in the news during the first week of April to let you choose the recipient. We thank you, again, for your passion and generosity.

We've crowned a header

Congratulations to [info]ohterlus for submitting the winning header, which will go live next week and keep us leafy through mid-April! You can submit designs for our next header contest at [info]ljnewscontests now until March 31st. We'll post a poll in the news to let you decide which header will sit at the top of LiveJournal from mid-April to mid-May. All artistic interpretations are welcome. The winner will get a $25 LiveJournal gift certificate. All other contributors will receive $5 gift certificates. Our heartfelt appreciation for sharing your talent and creativity!

For this week's winning photo and more adventures with Frank & Meme, we'll catch you under the cut!

Stuck in the Springtime

  • Mar. 11th, 2010 at 5:57 PM
It's 71 degrees and someone in the neighborhood is burning charcoal. This is why I bought a wifi router! Currently I am sitting in my foldout chair on my back patio, typing on my netbook, listening to birds chirp everywhere. The trees have not grown their leaves back, so I am in view of a beautiful sunset.

I just got back from grocery shopping. Without a jacket. Awesome.

On the down side, I think I can already feel the allergens in the air. As I was driving, I noticed that the median looked like algae or moss or something was starting to grow, giving the concrete a green tint. On the other hand, that could be some sort of no-grow chemical sprayed by the city. It's been raining and overcast the past few days, and everything is saturated.

Maybe tomorrow I will trim down the monkeygrass and bushes.

Your MBTI type: ENTP

Extraverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving
by Marina Margaret Heiss

Profile: ENTP
Revision: 3.0
Date of Revision: 26 Feb 2005

"Clever" is the word that perhaps describes ENTPs best. The professor who juggles half a dozen ideas for research papers and grant proposals in his mind while giving a highly entertaining lecture on an abstruse subject is a classic example of the type. So is the stand-up comedian whose lampoons are not only funny, but incisively accurate.

ENTPs are usually verbally as well as cerebrally quick, and generally love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off their often-impressive skills. They tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil's advocate. They sometimes confuse, even inadvertently hurt, those who don't understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport.

ENTPs are as innovative and ingenious at problem-solving as they are at verbal gymnastics; on occasion, however, they manage to outsmart themselves. This can take the form of getting found out at "sharp practice"--ENTPs have been known to cut corners without regard to the rules if it's expedient -- or simply in the collapse of an over-ambitious juggling act. Both at work and at home, ENTPs are very fond of "toys"--physical or intellectual, the more sophisticated the better. They tend to tire of these quickly, however, and move on to new ones.

ENTPs are basically optimists, but in spite of this (perhaps because of it?), they tend to become extremely petulant about small setbacks and inconveniences. (Major setbacks they tend to regard as challenges, and tackle with determin- ation.) ENTPs have little patience with those they consider wrongheaded or unintelligent, and show little restraint in demonstrating this. However, they do tend to be extremely genial, if not charming, when not being harassed by life in general.

In terms of their relationships with others, ENTPs are capable of bonding very closely and, initially, suddenly, with their loved ones. Some appear to be deceptively offhand with their nearest and dearest; others are so demonstrative that they succeed in shocking co-workers who've only seen their professional side. ENTPs are also good at acquiring friends who are as clever and entertaining as they are. Aside from those two areas, ENTPs tend to be oblivious of the rest of humanity, except as an audience -- good, bad, or potential.

Some Famous ENTPs:

Alexander the Great
Confederate General J. E. B. Stuart
Sir Walter Raleigh

Fictional:

Mercutio, from Romeo and Juliet
Horace Rumpole, from John Mortimer's Rumpole of the Bailey series
Dorothy L. Sayers's detective Lord Peter Wimsey

Update

  • Mar. 11th, 2010 at 10:29 AM
The tow truck guy called to let us know it's the water pump. He said he'd call back when he knew more, but we haven't heard back yet. I'm hoping it's just the water pump that needs replaced. Argh. :(
Edit: He called back with an estimate...$557 and they can't have it done till tomorrow afternoon. x_x Failfailfail.

We do have to pay for this room for another day since the jeep wasn't fixed by checkout time. Argh. Still not sure if we'll be able to make Louisville tonight but I'm doubting it.

Also, this fail hotel doesn't do breakfast and I'm sooo hungry and we don't have vehicular transport and the nearest place is kinda far away and not something I really want to eat...argh. :P
Honestly, it's pizza, so if I wanted it, we could just get it delivered anyway. We'll see.

Yay! Not really.

  • Mar. 11th, 2010 at 4:29 AM
Firstly, since I didn't post about it, we hit a blizzard while heading to the hotel yesterday [Tuesday, even though I'm technically posting this on Thursday now...] morning and didn't end up getting there until 4.30am.

Today topped that. I'm not sure how tomorrow could possibly have a hope of topping today... )

And remember how I was so afraid of planes a couple months ago? I decided I love planes. This is the biggest hassle on earth and I never want to be in a car this much ever again. Flying is where it's at.

P.S. I love how last night, shut in the bathroom, the cats were angels. Tonight, we decide to let them walk around the room and Reagan spends the entire time choosing random furniture to stand on and YOWL at the top of her lungs. Why is this necessary? She's just making noise for no reason and trying to get us complained about.
This stupidly expensive hotel room has the tiniest bathroom ever, so I don't think I could shut them in there even if I wanted to. Not with their litterbox, anyway. And certainly not with their carriers...
