To make a journal friends only, you literally have to go back and edit EVERY SINGLE POST you've ever made to be locked, and then the "friends only" post like this one is left public to let people know that only friends can see the entries

To make things easier in the future, you can set your journal to automatically default entries to friends only.

Go here:
http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/

Under "additional privacy options" you can change the default entry security.

I went back and deleted nearly all my journals and got rid of anyone who didn't friend me back
